Hyundai teams navigated a fiercely competitive and challenging Virginia International Raceway (VIR) this past Saturday, culminating in a strong second-place finish for drivers Mark Wilkins and Bryson Morris in the Virginia Is For Racing Lovers Grand Prix. The No. 33 Bryan Herta Autosport (BHA) Hyundai Elantra N TCR team demonstrated resilience and consistency, securing a vital podium finish despite a chaotic race involving multiple incidents and penalties.

The weekend started on a high note for the Hyundai teams, with the No. 33 of Mark Wilkins and Bryson Morris securing pole position in qualifying. Other Hyundai entries also demonstrated strong form, with the No. 98 of Mason Filippi and Harry Gottsacker starting fourth, the No. 76 of Denis Dupont and Preston Brown starting seventh, and the No. 18 of Lance Bergstein and Jon Miller starting eighth.
The action on the track began immediately, with a Full-Course Yellow (FCY) just 15 minutes into the race after the No. 76 Elantra N TCR of Denis Dupont and Preston Brown made contact with another car. This incident resulted in a drive-through penalty for the No. 76. The No. 72 of Riley Pegram and Larry Pegram also received a penalty for a pit-lane-speed violation.
As the race progressed, the Hyundai teams continued to battle through the field. With one hour remaining, the No. 33 was running in second, the No. 98 in fourth, and the No. 18 sat sixth. With only 12 minutes remaining, the No. 98 entry went off track after making contact with another competitor. Ultimately, the No. 33 came out strong amidst the chaos to secure a hard-fought second-place podium finish.
The team’s performance at VIR was a success, securing critical championship points and reinforcing Hyundai’s dominance in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge. This podium finish further solidifies Hyundai’s championship lead, building on the team’s relentless pursuit of success throughout the season.
